Introducing Build with Square: Developing New Ways to Sell with Square

Independent businesses have been poorly served by existing commerce solutions, which require them to laboriously piece together hardware, software, and payments services from many different vendors. From payments to point of sale, financing to payroll, we believe all sellers — big or small, online or offline — should be able to start, run, and grow their entire business with one cohesive system.

So we’re excited to introduce Build with Square, a set of tools to help sellers of all kinds join the Square ecosystem and run every part of their business in one place. Build with Square is a collection of APIs available to our sellers and the developers they work with today.

With our Point of Sale API, any iOS point of sale can be customized to process payments with Square. We know that some sellers — especially in retail, like bike shops or wineries — have highly individualized point-of-sale needs. By integrating with Square, sellers with a third-party point of sale will be able to use our beautiful and affordable hardware, accept EMV payments and Apple Pay, and receive the same fair and transparent pricing and financial services available to all our sellers.

With our E-commerce API, sellers can use Square’s online payments services on their own self-hosted, fully developed website. By seamlessly integrating their website with Square, omnichannel sellers can now have a powerful solution to grow both their online and offline businesses together, tracking all sales — no matter where or how they’re made — in one dashboard.

Nexternal, a point-of-sale developer, created HighJump Engage, an iPad point-of-sale and clienteling application for retail merchants. The company was looking to integrate its product with a payments solution that was ahead of the curve when it came to the many significant challenges related to in-person transactions, specifically with regard to acceptance of EMV chip cards and the introduction of Apple Pay.

“Partnering with Square alleviated us from having to get into the weeds with these technologies, and allowed us to focus our time on our app,” said Alex Gile, Vice President of Nexternal. “Beyond its simplicity, Square has established itself as a trusted payment processor and we’ve found our customers to be both comfortable and familiar with it.”

No matter what you sell, or how you sell it, you can sell with Square. Learn more about Build with Square.
